dc.description | The report includes firsthand accounts from several of the institutions under the jurisdiction for the Superintendent. The Protestant Orphans Home (1274 Barrington Street) was completely destroyed by the explosion and of 41 children only 15 survived (pg. 91). The Home of the Guardian Angel (located on Brunswick Street) lost only one child but the devastation and aftermath are graphically described by the Sister in Charge (pg.89). St. Joseph's Orphanage (located on Quinpool Road) did not suffer any loss of life by was greatly damaged (pg. 85) as was St. Paul's home for Girls (Tower Road?) and The Girls Home, College Street. All reported windows were shattered throughout the entire building and damage done to plaster and doors. | |
dc.description | Also included is a Report of the Children's Committee which was organized shortly after the Halifax Explosion for the purpose of assisting children effected by the disaster. The committee tool on the task of hunting for "missing" children, identifying "unclaimed" children and reuniting children with parents.
