Abstract
This paper explores the nature of communication in Jacques Savoie's novels. Many of the characters experience difficulties in making themselves understood by others, especially by their loved ones. Some of these challenges are psychological while others are related to the relationship between the characters. This study examines the both the factors that obstruct communication as well as those that foster it. Of particular interest are the related issues of language and its interpretation. While the state of mutual understanding is often attained through dialogue, the much more elusive state of communion is reached through art, specifically through music and poetry. Several of Savoie's novels are testament to the power of art to communicate not only the nature of the world but its beauty.
